Avon Dews, a Washington, D.C., native, is a self-taught musician who started playing around with the harmonica out of curiosity, but found that with a little practice the instrument made beautiful music. As a professional harmonica player, Avon expanded his musical career by performing at numerous prestigious events — including The Arena Stage At The Mead Center For American Theaters, The John F Kennedy Center/Millenium Stage, American Market at the National Harbor; several Feel the Heritage Festivals in Arlington, Virginia; Maryland Special Olympics benefit; various scholarship fundraisers. Avon has also performed at the 2015 Cherry Blossom Festival, the 2015 NAMM Show in Aneheim, California, Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, Westminster Presbyterian Church’s Blue Monday series, Carter Barron Amphitheatre for the DC Blues Society's 28th annual Blues Festival, a guest performer at the 4th annual 2016 Jazz Legacy Foundation Gala Jam Session at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, The Midday Jazz series at the Montpelier Mansion in Laurel Maryland. He also was a featured performer performing with the DC jazz group Phaze II at the City Winery in Washington DC.
Avon has released his debut CD entitled "Introducing...Avon Dews". His style is classic, cool and jazzy with a little old school and a touch of funk. Avon is now working on his second CD which will be releast earlly this summer 2020. Avon’s performance is a must-see event for music aficionados seeking to appreciate and experience the beautiful sounds that a skilled harmonica player can bring out of such a small instrument.
“Jazz harmonicist Avon Dews and the Avon Dews Band, gave an inspiring performance at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night. Avon, with his smooth style and selections ranging from Jazz to R&B, set the tone for an evening of pure excitement. I have known Avon as a jazz harmonicist, but on Sunday I had the opportunity to experience him as a vocalist, and a dancer as well. Avon has a unique gift of entertainment. He is a native of Washington D.C., and joins the many talented musicians and vocalists in our area as one who delivers the finest in entertainment. Washington, D. C. and its metropolitan area are so rich with great talent. That is why I love living here. That is why I will always SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!”
